Update #1 to the Reopen Fermilab Community

June 8, 2023

Dear member of the Fermilab Community,

With input from colleagues and neighbors, we aimed to provide a platform for community voices. At the outset, the petition was shared directly with fewer than 20 of you. Word of this effort spread organically throughout the community, and to date, the petition has been signed by over 2,500 community members, and over 190 of us have shared our testimonials. This level of engagement and support speaks to the importance of this issue and the values of this community. Even though the future is not up to any of us individually, the voice of this community is already being heard and that is worthy of pride and of hope.

Call to Action

June 20th is the last day to sign the petition before it is printed and delivered to the elected representatives. We need your help to give everyone in the community a chance to sign on.

Here are some resources you can use to continue spreading the word:

What's Next for Reopen Fermilab

A physical copy of the letter will be delivered to the offices of the elected representatives in person later this month—any and all community members that sign onto the letter by June 20th will be listed as signatories. Signatures and testimonials will still be accepted after this date, but the highest impact will come from the signatures collected at the time the letter is presented to lawmakers. In an effort to protect the anonymity of those who have asked for it, their names will only be included in the physical printed letter and not in any electronic version sent to any addressees.

You will receive an email once the letter has been delivered. Your contact information will not be used for any other purpose. Please direct any questions or concerns to [email protected]. Thank you for your support of an open Fermilab.

Sincerely,
Reopen Fermilab
